Karl L. Zinn papers, 1964-1997.

Zinn's papers document the development and utilization of CONFER and contain extensive printouts of conferences, particularly those relating to the use of computers in instruction. Also included is user documentation for CONFER, and topical files on various technical issues including the development of MERIT and early use of computers in the classroom.

Karl Zinn, a specialist in computer-assisted instruction, joined the University of Michigan faculty in 1963 as a research associate with the Center for Research on Learning and Teaching. Outside of museum holdings, no comprehensive survey and inventory of campus artwork had been attempted since 1937. With support from the Michigan Commission on Art in Public Places, 1,076 items were inventoried during 1988-1990. Additional inventory work was undertaken in 1997-1998 for risk management purposed, but generated little new information.
